West End Shows Are The Finest In The World
West End shows are located in London theatreland. This is traditionally
bordered by Oxford Street to the north, Regent Street to the west, The
Strand to the south and Kingsway to the east. Theatreland contains
approximately forty large theatres.
London's first playhouse was built at the Shoreditch in 1576. In 1663
the first West End theatre opened on Drury Lane and this was tragically
burnt down due to a fire in 1672.

Today, West End shows have something for everyone - musicals, classics,
comedies, dramas and thrillers. Shows in the West End may run for weeks or for years.

The Mousetrap, Agatha Christie's classic thriller continues on the
world's longest run. It was first shown at the Ambassadors in 1952
before moving next door to St Martin's Theatre in 1974. The Mousetrap is now in its 57th year during which time over 23,000 performances have been given.
The longest running musical in the theatreland is Les Miserables, which
originally opened at the Barbican Theatre in 1985 before transferring to
the Palace later that year. It remained at the Palace until the show moved
again to the Queen's Theatre in 2004.
This West End show is one of the
world's best-loved musical and has been produced in 38 other countries
and translated into 21 different languages.
The West End is the largest theatre district in the world and catching a show is a very passionate tourist activity.
